Published on September 6, 2018 By JTOMalley In ObjectDock

The weather docklet stopped working about a week ago (end of August 2018). All I get is "Feed not available, try again later"

"There are no imminent releases pending for ObjectDock at this time."

To be clear, this is not an issue with ObjectDock or any other weather widget; nothing needs to be fixed in OD.  This is an issue with a service that Stardock subscribes to for accuweather.com.

Then how do we get them to fix it?

>>This is an issue with a service that Stardock subscribes to for weather.com.

That being the case can anyone state what the issue is?

AccWeather still works here, via desktop widget, however I dislike that and prefer the 'Docklet' that comes with Objectdock.

I have the problem that it cant see the internet/for location, nothing has changed network wise this end.

It is obvious that this issue affects a number of people and all happened around the End of Aug.

Note: to mod/support can we get all the  threads merged so only one to update. Please don’t close/lock them either.

my docklet says accuweather.com. Nonetheless, going on 2 weeks w/o an official peep from official support informs me of all I need.

Stardock already stated in another thread about this that "There are no imminent releases pending for ObjectDock at this time." Therefore, it probably won't ever be fixed.

As stated in other threads this is not necessarily a ‘OBJECTDOCK’ problem. Its more off a Docklet/weather problem. I get that you trying to be helpful, there are other threads what I asked is for a grouping of posts, and I would now suggest that some official response from Stardock along with that grouping, I see AzDude, trying to be helpful.

But I think your possibly right that this is not going to be fixed anytime soon.

Ive even tried loading the Docklet in an editor, Ive tried replacing the dll’s/ocx to no avail, we need a guru to step up and fix it. See support treads going back years for dll’s/ocx sssssssss……….

I don’t see that ALL the errors are the same having looked at other threads about this but one thing that is the same is this Docklet is well borked.

My problem is it cant see the internet to update its self, what problems have you all got with it.

My mistake.  Corrected.

A shame we can't subscribe to the service ourselves...this was a very useful feature.

So what's the actual problem? Is it money with it being to costly. Or just plain lack of interest in fixing a few lines of code?

Not even a few lines of code, it is a simple API key change if they go with the same weather provider.
It seems like Stardock has lost interest in Objectdock so I doubt there will be updates of any kind.

So, just a few lines of code - officially we call that a quick fix and no real amount of cost for the dev team - so, SD, how about it?

There is a cost involved, API License keys are not free, although there may be alternatives other than purchasing a license from one of the big weather providers.

You can go to AccuWeather's site and get all the weather information you want without being charged, so why the heck would they care if someone puts their link into an ObjectDock tile for accessing the same weather information.?

(Oh.... wait.... I know.... GREED!)

Well it's October 5th and still not fixed, so I guess we can kiss that docklet goodbye,   A few months ago, Accuweather started asking for money for the hourly forecast past the next 24hrs on their Android app.  I deleted it when that happened and found another weather app that doesn't charge for hourly.  I wouldn't be surprised if Accuweather started charging for the service that fed this docket.  Of course, I would have expected Stardock to say that in this forum if that was the case - unless they are still negotiating a new deal.

rjdriver,

Accuweather has informed me that they are not currently working on developing any fix between them and Weather Docklet.  You can assume that this is now a dead parrot. Sorry.

Careful who you call greedy. They have people to pay as well. And when you go on the website, you see plenty of ads from which they can generate money. If the users don't go on their site, they need to find a way to balance that lost income.

That said. as we have paid for ObjectDock, Stardock should renew any kind of subscription or at least make sure an equivalent feature is created to replace this one.

If Stardock is not willing to support this application anymore : then it would be time to let developers of the community take care of that matter and go open source.

As I understand Accuweather is not offering this service any longer. At this time there are no updates for ObjectDock.
